"use up-to-date security programs to fend off viruses and spyware - but do so sparingly"
People start downloading every spyware and anti-virus program they can find. All these programs running at once eat up sysem resources and before long, your computer won't do anything else. Make sure to have 1 Anti-Virus suite installed (AVG (MCS Preferred!!!), Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky...) and 1 spyware/ adware/ malware detection program (MCS Prefers Malwarebyte's) Contact us if you have questions.
How precious is your data?

Hard drives retain your data, this could be special memories from photo's you have taken, to music or spreadsheets and other needed documents. All this data is in one spot, this one spot doesn't protect your valu...able data. There is two forms of backups, onsite by external hard drive and offsite (online) backups. The first methods is generally the cheapest since it is a one time cost versus offsite which coould be a monthly charge. Both solutions offer great advantages, the onsite solution offers the ability to recover data more quickly vs offsite. Onsite if there is a power surge it may take out the external hard drive if on a power source versus offsite where it's usually retained on server with it's own backups for redundancy.
Don't question the need for the backup solution till it's to late, if the computer hard drive that has the data you need on it, has died or has hardware issues- it is harder to get the data back without data recovery, this gets expensive fast! Questions about what solution is best for you? Contact us to find out more.
Are computer tune ups neccessary?

People ask me this question all the time, the answer is simple, yes.
Computers can get bogged down with spam, malware, viruses and more. There are also other non desctructive tracing programs that monitor what you do and what sites you go to that need to be removed. On top of all this the system maybe performing with issues that you might not know about, that may... cause issues further in it's lifetime. Issues such as hardware related, examples include hard drive failures, memory issues, video card issues, or it might be software based like the operating system has issues, or a certain program is causing blue screens. Think of a PC tune up as getting your car maintenanced or seeing your doctor on a regular basis. If these aren't done, than your life span or your cars life span might be at jeopardy. If you have never had a system tune up on your computer than it is time to give MCS Computer Service a call.
